Award winning composer & sound designer Andrew Callaghan brings a highly intuitive approach to storytelling through sound.
A childhood spent strumming piano strings and making noises with a Commodore 64 has been given focus with a classical training in composition. With a Masters in music from The University of Melbourne under his belt, Andrew composes for film, documentaries, television commercials and gallery installations.
Based in Melbourne, Australia, he has worked on numerous projects that have appeared locally and internationally. As well as being noted for orchestral, world and instrumental sounds, Andrew enjoys writing using electronics and recorded noise to produce an organic, embedded aesthetic. The ad music he writes, often more soundtrack than jingle, lifts these commercials above others.
As well as winning recognition in its own right, Andrew's music and sound design has appeared in a number of highly successful projects, including the short film Jerrycan (Cannes Jury Prize), the SBS documentary Paper Dolls (Hugo Awards Special Mention), and the multiple award-winning short film Marco Solo. Television commercials he has worked on have received multiple production awards, and have often been listed for attention relating specifically to music and sound.
