Bio

Andrew Callaghan

A childhood spent strumming piano strings and making noises with a Commodore 64 has been given focus with a classical training in composition. With a Masters of Music from The University of Melbourne under his belt, Andrew composes for film, documentaries, television commercials and live performance.

When writing soundtracks, his music is driven by a strong sense of drama and narrative, the scope of any given piece always directed by the scene. He is equally at home scoring for comedy and drama, drawing on a wide range of sounds, from traditional orchestral instruments to pure noise.

His work has appeared in a number of projects receiving industry recognition, including the short film Jerrycan (Grand Jury Prize, Cannes; Best short film, AFI awards), the Hugo merited SBS documentary Paper Dolls, and the multiple award winning short film Marco Solo. Most recently, Andrew's music for the German commercial Ballet Dancer won for Original Music at the 2009 Award Awards.
